O.k, i know a lot of people here will be hungover on new years day, but, i have to work night shift tonight ( yeah i know, fu&^en great! ), so i'll be brewing an ofest tomorrow, and am wondering if anyone else will be feeling well enough to brew?.

P.S, i have got a 3rd keg in operation now, and am planning on lagering this ofest for as long as i can, i absolutley doubt i'll make more than a month, but, hey, im gunna try!

I'll be attempting a brew tomorrow, but only if I can get some ingredients today.

If not, I'll be bottling a weizen and/or English Pale and/or Passiona Witbier.

Plenty to do.

New Year's Eve is for amateur drinkers, just like the Melbourne Cup is for am gamblers.

2 cents?
Seth :p

The fermentation freezer is full, so no brewing for me tomorrow.
If it turns into a big night, maybe the 2nd though :p

Beers,
Doc

Well it's going to be 42 degrees in Melbourne today, i am going to clean up & get ready to set a couple fermenters in the shed for tomorrow-see how we go!
Cheers & Happy New Year 15BL

:) Planning to brew 2morrow as the BOM site for Adelaide says a change is on the way,25 instead of the 42 we had Friday and 38 tipped for 2day.

Planning a simple pale ale with Ale malt(joe white),wheat malt a smidge of caramunich.POR to 27 IBU and throw in a saf us 56 for a neutral clean profile.Should have no worries keeping it @ 16/18 in the old brew fridge with ice blocks.
after secondary and a few weeks bottle conditioning it should be ready for that hot Feb weather we get down south. :chug:

Will be doing a pils today to see how my new RO unit helps but i'm planning on a very limited activity type day tomorrow.

Planning on 2 brews (bitter & Summer ale), but if this heat doesn't drop, i may stop at 1...
also need this NE wind to change direction, as it blows straight onto my brewery & I'm convinced my recent infection was wild yeast - Otherwise i'll have to set up a screen to try & shield it....

Cheers Ross...

Ross I don't bother brewing on windy days full stop. I have to open the garage door and just the amount of dust and other crap that is in the air spooks me. Same deal for kegging although at least I can keep the door closed.

Once I come up with a method for aerating the wort that doesn't involve a spoon and stirring like buggery, I might be more relaxed about that.

Going to be starting to setup my AG area - getting the plumbing and bench area done, going to get a modified version of a digital water heater so I can set the temp all the way up to 80 degrees and that way I can go straight to the mash from the tap without heating anything.

What size kettle will I need if I want to brew batches around the 60-80L mark?

OMG! 41 degrees tomorrow and brewing? Even worse , mashing?

I'll just be attempting to create some keg space, for an APA to go into, so I can go and find myself a esb fresh wheat and a yeast somewhere (mayfield?). Will wait for a cool change though - next week perhaps.

I wont be brewing tomorrow, I need to as I have run out of ALL my beers! Damn - pretty bad timing on my part!! I may keg my amber ale tomorrow if it is ready and I am ready to do another kolsch but it is dependant on the weather to some extent. I brew outside - just wheel the B3 out of the garage - so if it is too hot, raining or too windy it makes it tough.

Hew Ross what batch sizes are you doing? Two brews in one day - that is commitment!

Muga my kettle is a 54 litre capacity and I brew for a batch around the 37 litre (44 litre boil) - dont know if that helps

i'm running out of beer at a rapid pace
i actually went out and bought a slab! :(
i think i'll have to brew an easy quaffer tomorrow or it'll be a dry january 2006

With the cool change due here(Adelaide) 2morrow maybe all you eastern staters could figure on it arriving on monday and take advantage of the public holiday to squeeze one in B)

i'd really like to brew tmw, but realistically, it will probably be tues. thinking seriously about another double batch, as this hot weather is making my supplies evaporate !

tangent,

Let me go out on a limb here, and suggest a weizen, as your next brew.
Quick brewing, easy drinking, and quite tasty.
U should use your fave wheat yeast, of course.

Whaddayasay?

Sometimes a brewer needs to quickly recover stock, especially if he made a triple-decocted pilsner and then gave too much away before he noticed that he had bugger-all left.

Hmmm, silly bugger.

OTOH, I might just make an all-extract weizen today. Plenty of yeast in stock.

Thanks for the suggestion

Normally just 26l batches, enough for a keg & half a dozen tallies. i prefer variety over quantity - though may up my lager batches to doubles, as they tie up the fermenting far too long...

cheers & happy new year...

Check out this effort by Doc then Paul. He was planning on 4 AG's in the day.

I won't be brewing tomorrow either, but hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will. With any luck we'll empty a keg tonight and I'll refill it in a few days with an APA in secondary.

Nothing in primary, nothing in secondary, only 2 and a half kegs left in total after the family hit town :( I did have a good score yesterday, went looking for a 6 pack of LCPA at a local bottlo to take on a BBQ by the Harbour, the exchange went something like:

"Any Little Creatures mate?"
"Nah....oh hang on, there might be some out back" who then emerged with a box.
"I'm only after a 6 pack"
"Really? This was dropped off a few weeks back for a promo and I'm looking to offload it. No one around here drinks it"
"How much then?"
"I'll give it to you for $50 to get rid of it"

:) :) It's now in my possession with a 6 pack missing.

Anyway, quick Pilsner tomorrow, and providing I can get some Warrior hops in next week, 2 or 3 next weekend.

Have a good New Years all.

Cheers.

I'm taking 4 kegs and the wheelie bin dispenser to a New Years party tonight and regardless of how my head feels I plan to brew an ESB tomorrow to start refilling.

Temperatures arent going to be an issue here in Perth. Last night we were out in the bar and it was so cold I had to get the ponchos out to keep the guests happy!
