Hi guys,

I'm using White Labs English Ale yeast WLP002 for the 1st time.

Ive used a vial in a yeast starter and it's not behaving like any yeast I have used before.
The vial was in date and has been stored in the fridge.

My flask is now full of a substance that is quite thick and reminds me of curdled milk
Does anyone know if this is normal for this yeast strain?

Thanks

WLP002 is highly flocculent, what you picture is what you should get....and your beer will clear faster than a bust in a stoners pad.

Yep, to second what Dr K said, it should look like egg drop soup.

The yeast has done it's job and wants to settle out, but since you're constantly stirring it it forms into the large flocs you see.
This yeast is almost unique in that aspect, it's so highly flocculant that it will clump even while the stir plate is still on.

This is my Favourite yeast. If it's a classic English beer you want this is the yeast.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Good to know the yeast is doing what it should and I can now relax and enjoy brew day. :)

WLP-007 works in the same way.

Cheers. Hoges.
