Hi all

I'm in the middle of my first all grain brew (DSGA BIAB) and am wanting get my head around a few things. Firstly, when should I be taking gravity readings? Are there any others I should take other than pre and post boil? And what readings will I need to calculate efficiency?

Cheers
Chap

I take 3 readings:
1. After run off and sparge. BS2 calculates my mash efficiency from this.
2. OG into the fermenter.
3, FG after fermentation. I don't want bottle bombs, and this figure gives me the confidence I won't have any (never had one in almost 11 years brewing).

The two most important. OG (pitched with starter included and mixed well) and FG.
I take readings from the sparging only because its easy with a refractometer.
