Quick question that some past experiences will tell me quicker than research and calculations. What is the max batch size of a typical gravity beer (1.054) that I could do in a 58 litre mash tun? It is actually about 61 litres but at the bottom of the return fitting is 58 litres. Do you think I could do 70-75 litres if I had a 100 to 120 litre HLT and BK

Depends on your sparging technique a little bit, but probably not big enough. I use a 57L MT and can produce 45L of 1060 , but not a lot of room in the tun for a lot more.

I have a 50L eski and make 38L batches, though I fill up 2 x 16L cubes and water them down. My last beer was at 1.054 @16L.

I can squeeze 100lt (1.045) from a 75lt mash tun so it 'may' be possible but other factors to consider as well, efficiency drops when you jam pack the mash tun etc..

I'm now spewing I went for the 75lt over a 100lt mash tun, the extra space would have made a few things that much easier
