Can anyone tell me what the characteristics of a draught beer should be like?

What makes a draught a draught.

I had a kilkenny draught on the weekend which i thought was absolutely fabulous!

The only other draught that comes to mind is carlton draught, which is horrible. To me it tastes more like melbourne bitter and VB, and nothing like the kilkenny... .which brings me to my question of what is a draught?

cheers

I think "draught" simply refers to beer drawn from a keg. So really we should say draught ale, draught lager, etc. (I think)

WHY is VB called Bitter?

Because most Aussies don't know what a "Bitter" is so it doesn't matter, and it sounds masculine.

In Britain, they relabel VB to Victoria "Beer" so they don't mislead them into thinking it's a Bitter.

i see, that is very interesting... then what is a true bitter, any examples?

Ever had Boddington's? That's quite popular here in Aus and that's a Bitter. None of the larger Australian breweries make a Bitter (even though they might call it a Bitter). The micro's probably do, but none come to mind.

Look here for a detailed style guideline:

A bitter is an ale of no more than OG 1060 and a BU:GU of about .8
