Well, with a few brewers this year having their Cherry Popped on All Grain and alot more likely to come, just a little Topic to see what all did for there First All Grain, Dr Smurtos Golden Ale Being a very Popular choice... :icon_cheers: Mine was Dr Smurtos Golden Ale

CB

Also, what would be the process of having a dedicated topic to brewers First All Grain, so it is all kept in one area.. Then brewers wanting to have a look at everyones experience/set ups have one place to go to have a look??

My AG BIAB first brew was a good old Yorkshire Bitter with Maris Otter, Crystal, Fuggles, Goldings and Styrians.
No Chilled and WYeast 1469.

Went perfectly except for Cannibal Smurf and I chasing weetbix sized lumps round the urn with paddles ... now I pour in a thin stream of grain...

I was only thinking yesterday as I did a brew "how bloody easy is this :icon_cheers: "

Classic APA scaled for my brewery.Found recipe in a book bought from Salvo's book drive $0.50.

Fingers Crossed Porter (turned into a robust).

Finished the last tallie on the weekend, about 1 year old. Beautiful!

Smoked Porter :icon_drool2: heard about smoked beers, had to try one, couldnt buy commercially, had to mash to do one, so AG it was :icon_cheers:

Wish I could say it was a simple one, but no, had been doing partials for awhile so I just jumped in years ago.

Here it is, can't help myself even then.

Plus 80g of DME to condition in the keg.

+1 for Dr Smurto's GA.

Great first AG. Bring on number 2!!!

A simple ale. My record keeping has gone downhill since then. As mentioned in the attached notes keeping mash temp with the old electrim was a challenge!
Efficiency was pretty ordinary but it beat the old kits for flavour.
Thanks to Bill at Brewmaker (now in Holden Hill) for the encouragement.

It was about 8-9 years ago, was a APA.
No luxury of the malts easily available now, was adelaide maltings pale malt, could get caramunich though so in that went at 5% with a bit of wheat malt, some norrthern brewer and cascade and it turned out a rip snorter. Might have had imc munich too, can't recall and all the recipes from that era are long gone.

Was also my first kegged beer and I don't think it lasted very long

I did the hughman666's Pacific Pale Ale from the recipe database. Nice easy Pale Ale with Cascade and Amarillo.

My extremely tolerant girlfriend was not expecting much, and was preparing me for possible failure it being my first Ag, having only done kits beforehand...

Happily, much like just about everyone else's experience, the beer was f*%&ing amazing, and at least 10 times better than anything I had made before with kits- it was my first kegging experience also....oh what a sweet day that was! Hooked ever since.

in 2002, was a hefe, 50% wheat, %50 ale malts, hallertau and Wyeast 3068. Turned out great and never looked back.

American Amber ale.

Was awesome. It didnt match the extract version I made hop wise, but the malt flavour from going all grain was the clincher.

Mine turned out very bitter. I didnt know how to operate Beersmith at the time and messed it up.

100% Maris Otter
Magnum (far too much), EKG and Fuggles
Nottingham Yeast

I drank most of it though ;)

NRB's All Amarillo Ale, as listed on post #1 of the BIAB guide. So easy, so tasty.

I have used the same grain bill a few times since to make other single hop ales.

I would recommend this recipe to any first timer.

Mine was a American Brown Ale in June 2008. My, how time flies when you're having fun.

cheers
