Hi everyone,

I have a mate over in Perth for work at the moment and I am going to see if he can bring back some of the WA microbrews we can't get here in Sydney.

At this stage I'm going to ask for some Gage Roads Lager & IPA but any other recommendations? Are the Gage Roads brews any good or should I not bother? Are they easy to find and readily available at most bottlo's in Perth or is there a specific one he should go to?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jez

Jez,

have a look at recent topic:

"Western Australians - Please Help"

(don't know how to post a link....)

some great suggestions and lists there. Its based on visiting the micros not necessarily buying the packaged product, which is a little thin on the ground.

I would suggest a visit to the International beer Shop which is about a 10min walk from I think its the West Perth Train Station in Leederville. (better check that before he starts walking)

I've had one Gage Roads beer. Not offensive, quite bitter if I remember corectly.

Hi Jez,

Gage Roads is definately worth sampling, I would say the IPA is probably more interesting then the lager and both are reasonably easy to find in good liquor stores. Jarrah Jacks have brought out a Brown Ale along with a Pale and an English Bitter from memory and all are worth a look. Mt Lawley Liquor had 6 packs featuring the range or try the International Beer Shop, they have just about everything that's going. Feral do a Wit that's harder to find in a bottle but it's worth trying to get hold of as I think it's representive of the style.

cheers

Patrick.

Jandakot Liquor on Northlake Road (5 minutes north of gateways shopping centre) sell the Feral Wit and usually always have it. The also sell heaps of other speciality/obscure beers - Old Speckled Hen and Bishops Finger are 2 that pop into mind just now. Im not affiliated in any way, they just have a good amount of non standard stuff - a lot of Germans too - if any of the Perth blokes are down that way I strongly recommend dropping in for a look.

International Beer Shop is the go. Their range is deadly to your credit card. Check their website. Look it up yourself.

As for WA beers, Bootleg is relatively easy to get. You can buy a sampler six pack from International Beer Shop. Their best IMO is Raging Bull.

Surprised that you can't get Gage Roads lager back east, but if not then grab some. It's everywhere here. I remain a fan despite what some have written on here, but maybe it is more of an ale-lover's lager. The new IPA is possibly better again, if not exactly true to style. Ignore their pils. (Again an ale-drinker's opinion.)

If you also can't get Jarrah Jack's or Feral in your neighbourhood, I understand they are both worth sampling.

Was in The Last Drop Tavern In Warnbro last week sampling there micro beers and believe they are looking at packaging there beer for take away sales soonish.Probably not soon enough though for your friend.

Very cold in the west this morn
