Hi
I am keen to grow some fresh hops this year but haven't been able to source any in Tassie or find anyone willing to post them (due to the quarantine laws)
It would be great if anyone could provide a lead for a local supplier.
Cheers Ted

This is from an old thread might help you out.

Sandy is likely to have the following varieties

Pride of Ringwood
Cluster
Goldings
Hallertau
Hersbrucker
Mount Hood
Nugget
Perle
Precoce dBourgogne
Tettnang
Willamette
Wuerttemberger

If you would like information on any variety please go to

Some contact details have changed. This is from the email he sent out on 5th June 2012. I'd say they'd be all gone by now. Flip an email to get on the email list for next year.

"This is to let people know what rhizomes (hop plants) I will have for 2012.
The varieties so far are;

Cascade,
Chinook,
Hallertau
Hersbrucker
Perle
Pride of Ringwood
Red Earth,
Saaz,
Super Alpha,
Wuerttemberger

Red Earth - name is derived from the red hues of cones in their early stage of development, (just out of burr stage) and a brewers flavour description of 'earthy and woody'.

Please send through a list of the varieties you want and the quantities. Price is $25 per rhizome (unless arranged previously).

I need to get the numbers to my grower quickly so don't take too long.
I will send further instructions once I have them all here.

Cheers

Thanks for the ideas.

I am hobart based, Bushy Park isn't too far away but I don't think I can just turn up with a shovel

Thanks for the offer of the POR Nathan, I doubt I would get much use out of the variety, but appreciate the offer.

I've put an email into hopco and will wait and see.

Cheers

Hey Mate how did you go?

I left my run a bit late, so Sandy has me on the list for next year.

Cheers

Just when I had given up hope , I picked up a Columbus plant from the LHBS.

They have super pride and columbus available.

Looking forward to doing my version of a First Harvest Ale

Bumping an old thread, I'm after a rhizome or two, anyone got one spare? I'd prefer IPA/APA friendly varieties.

Glenos, keep me posted on how you go with those tassie hops mate

Hey glenos, i've picked up some rhizomes from hopco today, and got a couple of plants from tas home brewing yesterday.
PM me if you want hopco's contact number.
The rhizomes he had readily available was:
Hersbrucker
cascade
POR.
He also had a couple of willamette, tettnang and golding. He might have a few more, so its probably worth contacting him if you want to check what he has available at the moment.
Super nice bloke and good to deal with.

THBS had hallertau, hersbrucker columbus, millenium and cascade. They may have more. best check with them direct. Again, THBS were great to deal with, and really friendly.
Good luck!
