Hullo everyone and a happy new year to youse all.
I have made it back from the Old Dart and my liver is still intact (just)

The UK was great however a little on the cool side which is still good beer drinking weather.
I managed to try 54 real ales, 37 bottled beers, 2 smooth beers(served under CO2) and 1 can.
What i noticed was that the microbrew scene over there is quite strong and the beers being put out by these micros are top quality. There are still a few excellent big name beers over there but I think they are dumbing down some of there beers.
I spent a day brewing with the brewer at the Blencowe Brewing Co. which was great. (www.exeterarms.com) He owns a pub in Barrowden and sells all of his beer there, and bloody lovely it is too!
Other great micros were The Grainstore Brewery (ex Ruddles County brewer)http://www.pcamra.demon.co.uk/davises/, and Oakham Ales at Peterborough http://www.pcamra.demon.co.uk/oakham/. I visited all these more than once.
Among the bigger breweries beers from Batemans, Timothy Taylor, Caledonian, Fullers and Everards were all lovely.
When I get some time I will post the complete list of beers I tried.

Unfortunately we didn't get to Belgium due to our daughter being ill.

I hope you all got good brewing presents and look forward to another year of Aussiehomebrewer.

Cheers and Bollocks
