Hey Guys,

I got a can of Tooheys Special Lager for an experiment, anyone tried this before?

Just a standard recipe for it -
Special Lager Can + Kit yeast, 1kg Body Brew(LHBS Mix) and 12g Nelson Sauvin..

I also have some cascade, amarillo and czech saaz hops in stock if i should add something else..

I've done 2 x Tooheys Special Lager kits, 1 KG of dex and 05 yeast.

After it ferments for 2 weeks rack it into secondary with 1kg of raspberries in a hop bag for 1 week.

The wife loves it and it's quite a nice drop.

Rubbish kits. If going to use it boil the beejeebus out of it and use it as a base malt.

Even better, don't use it :)

'Nel sav' is a good hop. Used in abundance it will mask somewhat the kit flavour so it may be ok.

The question remains: what's so special about the special lager?

Or was it just "on special"?

It was on special :D

Thought i'll try it out as i usually get some good results from Coopers Kits.

I do Tooheys Special Draught and Special Lager Toucan when they are on sale at Woolies, it turns out quite nice.
