Should rhizomes be dug up and split every few years?

Or do they just keep getting better with age
 
They will get bigger with age, and produce more yield generally. I don't think the flavour or aroma profile of your hop would change significantly over time unless the soil conditions changed drastically.

I would not rip them out of the ground unless you are moving. Certainly trim the runners back to within say 1m from the centre of the plant. Otherwise they may take over your whole backyard!
