I don't want to sound like a wowser, but I think people should put a warning on some of their threads (maybe they can show up in Red in the recent topics list). I generally look at this site when I'm in the office and on more than one occasion an image has popped up that certainly isn't suitable for my place of work. I can get away with beer related stuff on the computer, which this site is supposed to be about, but chicks with their kit off is likely to get me in serious trouble.

Cheers
MAH

NSFW - not safe for work.
put that extension after the topic/thread name.

Or go TV content warnings, NASLDH

I thought that these things weren't allowed to be posted anyway?

From Dane's sticky in the jokes lounge

"I'm sure I don't need to outline everything in black and white, but for example if you aren't comfortable in viewing your post at work it probably isn't suitable for this thread.

Basically no pornography. And keep jokes tastefull.

Any posts that come to my (or the moderators attention) that fall outside these guidelines - or is in any other way unacceptable - will be deleted."

sorry but id like to know what the **** you are doing looking at ahb at work.
at my place of work we can if entitled to access the internet get sacked quick smart for going off where we are not authorised to go.

its called duty of care and we have a code of conduct to sign.this is what ends up getting people sacked then there is all sorts of problems with the unions and fellow workers trying to save some persons arse for wandering out of what initially is set up for work related stuff.

if it can get you in trouble and if you want to regulate what you see on this site while at work then stay off till ya get home.dont stop the rest of us from enjoying the occasional perve or bad joke.

apologies MAH but it shits me when i see people accessing sites at work (non work related as is the access they have been given)then they whinge when they get threatened with the sack etc.

cheers

I think in this case, the problem was that the title didn't make it obvious what you were going to see, so people interested in keg systems (including myself) clicked on it.

What if you're allowed access to the internet at work for non-work purposes? Or you read AHB with your kids nearby, etc ?

Titling the thread "[NWS] Keg System" or "[NSFW] Keg System" gets around the problem quite nicely.

true i can see your point mcwb but gee are we going to have to end up rating every post so we dont upset some one.
be responsible for what you do and if you have kids peering over your shoulder tell them to go away.kids dont really need to know about beer sites anyway.a lot of sites have in appropriate pop ups from time to time.it happens.least the said post had pics beer related which after all is what we are looking at.

all funny shit..... its the net for crist sake.... netnanny time....

I gotta agree with MAH and others. A lot of work places allow you access to the internet for personal use, within reason.

I have worked at places where people have been sacked on the spot for viewing inappropriate material. Thats very different to checking out a beer site in your lunch break.

I don't think it's too much to ask to warn people in the title of your post.

Wreck.

geez big d, glad i dont work where you work. its really not that hard, the guidelines are not all that strict. no one is trying to regulate what anyone else does on the internet. they just dont want it all mixed up with the time they spend getting info on homebrewing, and talking about beer in general.

oh, and why shouldnt kids be looking at a beer site??

I've got a really good employer who doesn't hassle me as long as I get my work done. Sometimes I come in early, sometimes I stay back late, it doesn't matter too much when I do the work as long as it's done on time.

I don't really care if you want to have a perve and a bad joke, but why does it have to be on a site dedicated to beer, there are plenty of other opportunities to look at tits on the Net.

My point is pretty simple. It's about informed consent. When I go to GiganticTits.com, I freely and willing agree to be exposed to adult material. I have made an informed decision as an adult to perve. However when I go Aussie Home Brewer, I can reasonably expect that the content of the site will be about beer. So when I open a thread entitled New Keg System, I can reasonably expect to see kegs not jugs  !

By keeping this site on the topic of beer I'm in no way restricting your choice to perve (remember GiganticTits.com and all the other sites are still there), but the reverse can't be said by those that want to bring adult images onto non-porn sites.

One last point is that brewing is not just for blokes, but your chances of attracting females is severly reduced if you have material that is primarily directed towards the titilation ;) of men.

Cheers

I thought you were joking about a site called gigantictits.com.... DAMN

how do those poor women stand up without tipping???

Anyhow, back to the point, I think MAH is right on this one. There are plenty of opportunities for a perve on the net, so there is no real need to add it to this beer site. Maybe a link with a NSFW label would allow those who choose to have perve make an informed decision.

I am 100% with bigd on this one. If you are at work, use the internet for work and save ahb for when you get home.

YOUR reponsibility, leave censorship to the wowsers

So you were at home when you sent this email? Who's minding the shop?

Well Monk obviously you failed Philosophy 101, becuase for an individual to act responsibly they must have the necessary information to make an informed and "responsible" decision. All I'm saying is give people the information they need to make a decision for themself by correctly labelling a thread.

And talk about censorship is just bollocks. Censorship is a deliberate attempt to edit content. I origianly said that a warning would be good. Warnings are not censorship.

But all this debate is irrelevant becuase the owners of the site have said:

"Basically no pornography. And keep jokes tastefull."

If you've got a problem with that JM then maybe Ozshitbeers is where you should stay.

MAH

I have posted no pornography or tasteless jokes.

If you view ahb at work, your responsibly. I am my own boss, so can post from work. I don't visit sites where porn may be displayed while staff or customers can see it.

Ozkitbeers takes this to the ultimate.

So are we to assume that when no-one is in the shop, or at least out of sight, you're happily beavering away through SpankMyMonkey.com and other adult orientated sites  .

Ooohh that's an image which will give me nightmares!
