this is properly the most black malt you should use or use 230 g choc malt for brown porter.iam not near my recipes at the moment and cant remember exactly the gravities but its for 20l with 75% efficency so 1.053 O.G

28 g 1 min

wyeast american II 1272

edit: this is for roughly 23 litres at o.g 1.056 at 75% effiency.
i think it is very important to be over 5% this seems to balance it out wickedly and gives it the complexity.

now show us yours. any questions on mine please post. if you want some tasting notes maybe type them out another nite anyway these are properly two of my best.

cheers jayse

still in the primary

My second shot at an ordinary bitter although I think its migrated to a special bitter now.

3.5kg Pale Malt
200g Crystal 120
200g Wheat Malt

30g Northern Brewer (pellets) @ 60 mins (35IBU)
28g E.Kent Goldings @ 10min
28g E.Kent Goldings @ 5 mins

Wyeast 1099 Whitbread Ale

Ended up with 23L @ 1.042

Still in secondary at the moment so fingers crossed it comes out alright. Did a previous version minus the wheat and with much less E.Kent not a bad beer but not bitter enough (boil was split into 3 pots for that one...). Still getting my all grain techniques sorted so I shall see if this is a step up. Also have a primary full of Jayse's LCPA above bubbling away, that is looking pretty tasty.

lovely work jasony your bitter sounds very similar to some i have done exept i always go for a bit higher o.g.
as for the lcpa that rocks.my last four have used pale ale malt instead of the amc pale malt so i have used more wheat and less crystal.still to early to tell how they compare though.but so far i think that recipe above is my best a.p.a.
