I am sampling my first all grain beer at the moment and it's by far my best beer. I've been doing extract batches and made the leap to AG and Kegging after lurking on the site and reading as much as I could. I made Little Fellas pale ale but used amarillo in place of the chinnok as I could not get any at the time. I force carbed my beer after chilling and it's pretty good I think it needs a little more time though, it was put in the fermentor on the 11 May. I used Brewmate to guide me through the process these are the notes I put down:
5/9/2012 2:46:00 PM : Next time use bucket for grain bag- easier
takes about 40 minutes to get up to boil
5/9/2012 3:47:46 PM : 10 min whirlpool commenced
5/11/2012 7:53:32 PM : Need a pick up tube to leave behing the trub
5/11/2012 8:36:12 PM : Into fermenter = 19 litres spilled maybe 1 to 1 half ltres so evap rate is higher than stated
5/11/2012 8:49:25 PM : Tested OG at 1056 20C
5/16/2012 1:29:14 PM : Tested SG at 1011 20C
5/16/2012 1:29:33 PM : Dry hopped
5/20/2012 8:53:18 AM : Tested SG at 1011 20C
5/20/2012 3:57:53 PM : Started to chill in fermentor to 4C
5/23/2012 12:12:36 AM : Kegged and force carb, some back flow to gas line be very careful (This was done two hours prior to the time shown, I was enjoying the beer whilst the family were in bed)
5/23/2012 12:16:26 AM : Tastes good
Anyway My First Post just to say thanks for all the useful tips and now I'll probably start asking questions a lot more as I had a great time making this beer. Cheers. (BIAB by the way)
