Reading thru other threads,

A few ppl have mentioned that they swirl the wort around in the fermenter
when its almost finished, to reinvigorate the yeast. If the yeast is an ale strain
a so called "top fermenter" and it floats on top, then would swirling the wort around cause the yeast to end up stuck to the sides of the vessel, above the wort itself.

Wouldnt that render the yeast useless?

Or is the yeast more evenly distributed throughout the wort, rather than just sitting on top?

Any advice appreciated

Even with a top fermenting yeast, there is a reasonable amount that flocculates out and settles at the bottom of the fermenter and there is a fair bit in solution. A gentle swirl stirs the yeast up and helps them work.

Thanks Pedro, ill go and give my bavarian wheat a swirl now :beerbang:

No! Don't swirl it, the yeast will drown!

sorry... what i meant to say was that yes a swirl will be good. it also helps to get a little more oxygen in your wort, which the yeast likes at the start of the ferment. it's not, however, critical, especially if you're using a dried yeast.
