Storing A Wooden Barrel

After a little advice here guys. I have a 20 litre oak barrel which was full of port. It is now empty & I don't intend to refill it in the foreseeable future but I do want to keep it. What's the best way to store this? If I let it dry out will it shrink & crack? TIA.
