And sharpen the blades and you probably wouldn't even need to crush the malt before-hand
 
BTW, lately I have been using a piece of 8mm stainless steel rod to break up doe-balls in the mash. Works a charm, just drag it in the mash from side-to-side in a criss-cross fashion until I can't feel any more resistance.
Certainly better than the paddle I used to use
