So there I was last night, about to bottle my new Maple Porter (mmm...smells sooo good....), sanitising my bottles and fermenter with sodium met, then rinsing them out with hot water from the tap, basically doubling my bottle prep time, when I asked myself: is it really necessary to rinse? Does anybody know if there is a noticable flavour imparted to their brew when sodium metabisulphate is used and not rinsed? If there is, what is a cheap alternative sterilising agent that doesn't need rinsing?
