Crap. Was just about to pitch this evening and I think my starter is buggered... stinks like yoghurst and had a thick set ob bubbles up its entirety today and being flat this morning.

Here's an album - little black dots settiling at the bottom very quickly.

What do you guys reckon?

Well that shouldnt smell like anything other than yeast.

If you've got another packet, I'd rehydrate it and pitch it. Better to spend an extra $4 bucks for reassurance than waste ~$25 - $50 on a whole batch in my opinion.

Already in the process of rehydrating another pack. Was just being super sure.

Pitch into some milk and ferment at 45deg for 8 hours :D

I reckon it looks like fresh made vanilla bean yoghurt! Whack it in the fridge and let SWMBO'd have it at dessert :p

Haha... yeah yeah :p

The erlenmeyer is now having a good think about what its done in a bath of oxyper :p

No real need to make a starter with dried yeast anyway (unless it was recultured/slurry??)
