I just thought i'd share my surprise....

A recent clean out of my shed had me suddenly realise I am only a mash tun short of a 3V system.

  • 26ltr Birko (currently used for BIAB) cost me $20 = HLT
  • 50l (legally aquired)Keg cost me nothing = Keggle
  • March pump I picked up for $15 at a market knowing it would be handy one day.
  • Found a tempered glass saucepan lid on hard rubbish that will fit the Keggle.
  • Even found a braided hose that will make a manifold for the mash tun.

All I need is a mash tun and heat source (gas/electric??) a bit of plumbing and I have the makings of a possibly the cheapest 3V system ever.

A combination of being a tightarse and avoiding having to explain spending on brew stuff to SWMBO will see me poke around at garage sales etc to get the esky and other bits for next to nothing if I can... but it isnt that far away and I just might get there.

I did find an esky on hard rubbish yesterday but it didnt have the lid (so I left it there).

In the mean time i will keep on BIABing.

Cheers
BnB

I would just buy a new esky rather than a dodgey old one. If you plumb it took right you can still use it as a normal esky.

keg for HLT/kettle. mash in urn. bucket to catch the mash runnings.
