Can anyone tell me wether the yeast in schofferhoffer hefe is the primary or a secondary for bottling.
 
I would have thought most of the hefeweizens available here would have a lager yeast for bottle conditioning. Sorry to disappoint, however both wyeast and whitelabs put out hefeweizen yeasts the difficult decision is deciphering what one to use. Most agree WLP300 or Wyeast 3068
 
The yeast in Schneiders Hefeweissbier is usable.

And gives a typical German weissbier flavour to whatever you brew with it - even a Pale Ale.
