G'day all
I've just had the last week in Ho Chi Minh City and the beer scene is a bit ho hum. One thing that has intrigued me quite a bit since being here, though, is the use of young, slim (here's where the sexism creeps in) and attractive young women to market Sapporo beer at restaurants, cafes and supermarkets. So, you go to a restaurant, sit down and start ordering your meal with a waiter/waitress and one of them just appears there with a bottle of the stuff ready to rip the top off (steady on, from the bottle...) and pour you a glass. Literally, these young women are all over the place. Last night I was down at the local supermarket getting some basic supplies and thought that I should at least check on what range/price beer they had and another one was standing there on her pat malone, just looking pretty.... Later last night at a restaurant there must have been half a dozen of them at least patrolling the tables. So, is this just marketing 101: sex sells??
It's not a bad beer so I'm a bit amazed they (Sapporo) have to stoop to this. I wonder what retainer the Sapporo girls are on? Hope they get paid well...
Cheers,
ToG
