Hi Guys,

Just got a new air pump for aeration of the wort, but the air coming out of the pump has a real rubber smell, obviously from the diaphragms. Is this going to effect the wort? Do I need to take the pump apart and try and wash the diaphragms?

Cheers.

I have a pump which I used to use (now use pure o2, otherwise I'd still b using that pump) and it had/has a fairly strong rubber/mechanical smell. I was worried at first so bubbled it into a cup of water for 5 mins and couldn't taste any difference. I then used it on about 20 batches with no I'll effects that I could taste. It has a sanitary filter.

I'm not saying its good, I'm just saying I experienced no I'll effect.

Thanks danestead, exactly the answer I was looking for. Hopefully upgrade to pure o2 in the near future. Are you using the Bernzomatic disposable cylinders?
