Hey all,
I've really been getting into LC's Roger's beer recently, and am keen to try to make a clone.
Somewhere on this site I found a picture of the 'recipe' written on a blackboard (props to whoever posted it, cant find it atm). The description given by LC is as follows:
Hops: cascade (tas or usa)
Malt: LC Pale Ale malt, vienna, carapils and wheat
So I tried to knock up a recipe based on this description and guess work. Came up with the following:
Batch Size: 15L
Original Gravity (OG): 1.035
Final Gravity (FG): 1.009
Alcohol (ABV): 3.44 %
Colour (SRM): 9.1 (EBC): 17.9
Bitterness (IBU): 24.5 (Average)
1kg American 2-Row
0.6kg Vienna
0.6kg Wheat Malt
0.1kg Carapils (Dextrine)
0.1kg Chocolate, Pale
0.3 g/L Cascade (7.8% Alpha) @ 60 Minutes (Boil)
0.7 g/L Cascade (7.8% Alpha) @ 30 Minutes (Boil)
1 g/L Cascade (7.8% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Boil)
I only added the pale chocolate as nothing else in LC's description seems like it would give the right colour. I was thinking of either going with that or Caraaroma. Is there something I'm missing? Is there another way to get the desired colour without adding a darker malt?
Also I have never used Wheat or Vienna before. Is 25% too much of the grain bill for the Vienna?
I'm really feeling my way around in the dark here. I've only got a handful of AGs under my belt. I BIAB, and chill. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Also I was thinking about maybe upping the grain 10 percent or so and mashing at a higher (maybe 68 degrees) temp to get increased body with the same abv.
Many thanks...
Ps. yeast will be US-05 @ around 19 degs.
