Has anyone tried using a rice cooker for a mash?

The science guru here at work is testing various brands and found one that holds
the contents at 70 deg C using it's internal thermostat.

The bowl is too small for AG, but I reckon it would hold 2-3 kg of grain in 8-10 litres quite easily.

Seems the thermostats are set by the manufacturer, so you would have to know the right brand, or check the specs
before buying. Some hold the bowl at 90 deg C which would be NFG.

For the record, the brand with the 70 deg C thermostat we have here is Bellini, sold at K-Mart I believe.

You could always use an external thermostat to control the temperature of the cooker. I have Seen plenty of info regarding the use of rice cookers or slow cookers in conjunction with a PID for sous vide cooking. This is basically interchangeable with mashing.

Wow, sounds almost ideal for Milds, Browns etc which have a smaller grain bill that's mashed fairly high. I'd consider Maxi-BIABing 3kg in it. Sounds like a promising find! :icon_cheers:

Or one of these, automated biab.
