I've searched the forums and net but can't find a clear answer to this question.
I often reuse the yeast cake in my primary fermenter to save on time and reduce the amount of sanitising I need to do.
However, in my glass 23L carboy, I stopped using dry hops in hop bags because they are a nightmare to pull out through the neck. Also, direct dry hopping in the primary fermenter gives a stronger aroma and hop flavour.
I want to know if you can reuse a yeast cake from a previous batch that has been directly dry hopped with free pellets, or will this give it a bad oxidised hop character to the second brew?
I would only do this for 2 brews, I wouldn't try to get 3 brews out of a yeast cake with 100 or more grams of hop sitting in the trub.
