I have just scored myself two 50L kegs. Unbranded of course :D

The trouble is that they have a small amount of paint on their exterior surface & I would like to know the best way of removing it without damaging the stainless steel.

I found this article and suggest I use paint stripper

The article is for indoor stainless steel and not exactly kegs.

Can anyone shed some light on the best way to remove it? I am guessing that it is Acrylic

Why bother. If the paint is on the outside of the keg it really shouldn't cause any drama for the beer inside!

I used paint stripper. It was a paste type one. Paint bubbles and I scaped it off. Little bit of clean up and it was done. I think I worked on smallish sections at a time.

Cheers, Justin

LOL GL, but the paint is around the centre of the keg, and a bit on top.

Cheers Justin, I'll grab a small tin of paint stripper and do as you suggested.

Jim, you're right, but just want to clean the Keg for aesthetics :)

sand it off with sandpaper around 60 grit then go finer like 120 to 180 ect then use sotchbrite to get a no 4 finish

mmmmmmmmmm kegs with paint on them are no good for brewing

You will have to send them to me :p

cheers

Ok, I used some Selleys Kwik Strip, as it was cheap. Looked a bit like Clag glue but clear.

This stuff is excellent :chug: A thick coat, leave a few minutes, wash off with pressurised water & a light scour for the stubborn stuff.

Real nice :)

Sorry Tony, these took me a long time to "bribe" the owner
