Hi all,

Any Fridge techs out there? is it possible to strip out the workings of a fridge and use it as a wort chiller?

I have been giving this some thought lately, my biggest concern at this stage is the massive heat load that would be put on the compressor. Basically you would be asking the compressor to operate at an evaporation temperature 60 degrees hotter than normal. This would probably cause the compressor to overheat very quickly, therefore shortening it's life span dramatically.
Without some form of over the top capacity control, I feel the only other refrigerated option would be to use a secondary medium like glycol, you could cool the glycol over a period of time, then use a plate heat exchanger. Probably over the top again, that's why my ideas are still in the thinking stage.

Edit, correct spelling
