It would be cool if the recipe db had some kind of search where you could input the ingredients you have and spit out matching recipes.

I have got the following ingredients (I am using BIAB and no chill):

5kg Pils Malt JW
0.5kg Crystal Malt JW
1kg Munich Malt JW
0.25kg Carapils

Galaxy Flowers 400g
Centennial Pellets 450g
Cascade Pellets 450g
Hallertau Pellets 450g
Nelson Sauvin Pellets 100g

Nottingham
Safale US-05
Saflager 34/70

Have done 5 BIAB so far which have been lagers and fake lagers without too much bittering.
This time I was thinking something with a bit more malt complexity and also more hop flavour/aroma (was thinking maybe APA).
I was hoping to use the centennial as I have never tried it before but have heard good things.

Was thinking something like:
4.5kg Pils Malt
0.5kg Munich
0.25kg Crystal

10g Centennial 60 min (perhaps up ammount and try FWH?)
15g Centennial 15g Cascade 30 min (maybe 20 or 15 mins to account for no chill?)
Then probably french press 20g Cascade?

Us-05

Suggestions?

Edit: Should probably add I use a 40L urn, normally start with 33L water and end up with 27L in urn at end of boil and 23L in fermenter after cubing.

I'd up the late hops to 3g/l at least, and add them in two gifts, one at say 15 mins and the other @ 5mins, then french press the cascade. Centennial cascade is a good combo.

What beers do you like? If you are a fan of LCPA, then you could bitter to around 45IBU and see how that goes, otherwise scale it back a bit and bitter to maybe 35IBU. Add the late hops to a brewing calc and then work back from there the amount of bittering hops you would need. And if you FWH in beersmith the IBU calc comes out higher, but I don't believe it and would say it is a bit lower.

Grist looks good, but with the Pils malt I would boil for 90 mins rather than 60mins to drive off DMS, especially as you are cubing it. Also, with that boil off rate you might be going to hard on the boil and driving off more. Try a slightly less vigourous boil for the 90 mins. I'd be aiming to boil off around 3.3l/h with your start volume, so around 5 for the 90 min boil.

I just plugged this in and would do something along these lines. I wasn't sure if you sparged or not:

Thanks for the tips.

I will take your advice and up the hops and split them into the additions listed (I do like LCPA, and even if it turns out a bit more hoppy I will still enjoy it most likely)

I boil and mash for 90 minutes currently, the 33L starting volume is before adding grain, I think I normally end up with about 31 litres after I drain the grain bag (sometimes I sparge a small ammount to get it to about 32L). I think last time I boiled off 5L over 90 minutes (I was a bit worried it wasnt vigourous enough but good to hear this is ok).

Recipe looks the goods will stick it into Beersmith.

Look in my sign for Lord Nelson Sauvin Citra Ale, replace citra with galaxy (which is what I've done in part to the one in my fermenter at the moment).

Ale malt & crystal will sub for caramunich I. I'm whacking a bit of rye in mine second time around, as follows:

90.91% Perle Malt Bairds
5.45% Caramunich I
3.64% Rye Malt

0.4 g/L Citra (11.5% Alpha) @ 30 Minutes (Boil)
0.8 g/L Cascade (5% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Boil)
0.4 g/L Citra (11.5% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Boil)
0.8 g/L Galaxy (13.4% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Boil)
0.4 g/L Nelson Sauvin (11.4% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Boil)

Good luck, whatever you do, with those ingredients, you can't go much wrong.

Goomba: That hop combination sounds pretty tasty, might have to organise my next bulk sack of grain and try it next (is there a way to get beersmith 2 to show g/l next to the ingredients that I am missing?)

As I am no chilling do you think I need to make any adjustments to the late hop additions?
Or leave as is? (I am guessing due to FWH there will be less perceived bitterness than shown?)

I probably need to go check the aa% on my hops also to see if they match BS (I think centenial was higher than 10)

I'm not sure, I don't use beer smith, but brewmate (which does both weight and % - it has a button to switch it)

Yes, you'll need to adjust for nochill. I don't nochill, and I don't know what the adjustments will be, other than the fact that brew mate does allow for them. Given my longest addition is 30m, you'll really need to think carefully about FWH vs 30m. It's not the same as the 60m addition.

And yes, definately check your hops - my latest batch of citra and cascade came direct from the US, so it may be different to the supply you have.
