I recently came across a brand new grundy style tap and it's a bit noisy and rattly. I bought the same kind of tap from GMK recently (second hand) and it doesn't have the same kind of problem so I took it apart to compare and noticed that it has some kind of grease in there, while the brand new tap does not. What kind of grease should I use? I've read in the past not to use petroleum based such as vaseline etc and I'm sure I even saw it mentioned that KY Jelly is supposed to be pretty good.
Any ideas?

Try your LHBS, if he sells kegging gear, he should have the food grade lubricant.
If that fails, ky should be food grade.
ask them at the shop

You need non petroleum based food grade grease.

Personal lubricants such as KY jelly are fine to use. Don't get musk flavoured, just the plain variety.

Is good for post orings on kegs too.
