I have a roggenbier planned.

I have read, heard and been told that rye malt is a bitch to mash and i might need some rice hulls.

Question........

If i buy 1KG of hulls, how many liters of hulls do i get?

I have been told to use hulls in liter volumes but you buy it by the KG.

never seen them so am hoping someone can help.

cheers

dunno but I bought 5kg and that fills 2/3 of a grain bag so I think 1kg will certainly have enough for a single brew.

Hi Tony,

Bit odd that you've been advised to use them by volume & not weight, given that we generally weigh our grain, and the husk (barley/ rice) is a % of that weight

The problem with volumes is that it depends on how much you compress them.

Uncompressed but with some settling, you are looking at about 150g per litre.

Rgds,
Peter
