G'day Men,

I have a recipe for a Brown Ale that I got off the internet. When I put it into Brewsmith, the colour indicated that it is pitch black. It is a 40 litre brew. Any help would be much appreciated.

5 kg Base malt
2.3 kg Caraaroma

500g Crystal 140

250g light chocolate malt

500g special b malt

thanks in advance,

cadbury

Get another recipe. That one's mental.

2.3kg of caraaroma is huuuuuuuge

I just bottled one: -
Base Malt 75%
Carapils 9%
Caramunich II 7%
Wheat 6%
Choc 3%

Yet to taste it though. Smooth out of the FV.

What kind of Brown Ale are you after?

Shudders... :icon_vomit:

I'll admit I'm a bit over too much crystal at the moment but that is just insane. It is a slightly different style but to give a rough frame of reference the Better red than dead recipe in the DB, which is a crystal heavy style that I wouldn't want to add any more crystal to, uses less than 900g of crystal malt (assuming you scaled to 40L).

I don't think so...

Code:
Ingredients:

------------

Amount Item Type % or IBU

5.00 kg Pale Malt (Barrett Burston) (3.9 EBC) Grain 57.1 %

2.50 kg Caraaroma (Weyermann) (350.7 EBC) Grain 28.6 %

0.50 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (118.2 EBC) Grain 5.7 %

0.50 kg Special B (Dingemans) (290.6 EBC) Grain 5.7 %

0.25 kg Chocolate Malt (Thomas Fawcett) (1000.8 EBC)Grain 2.9 %

Still no link to the online recipe...

Are you sure you didn't make it up?

If I were brewing that I would strip out the caraaroma and special b altogether, and half the pale choc and crystal.

even then it'd be rich.

175g choc and 250g crystal in 40 L would be rich?

Really?

I think the recipe looks badly thought out (Only 5kg base in 40 L and nearly 2.5 cara anything in that amount seems absurd) but I think some people have missed 40 L and are assuming single batch.

My apologies, did assume 20 or so litres. And I meant rich as in to style, not overly rich.

Cheers.
