Re. cutting a hole in the top of a keg.

From what I've read in previous posts the general consensus is metal cutting discs.

Any problems with using an oxy torch? A mate has one and suggested he'd do it for me, however I don't want to end up butchering my soon to be mash tun.

Plasma cutter does a nice job. Oxy torch will probably make a mess

Then get the grinder in and neaten it up a littl then get a file or Dremel and get tid of all the sharp edges

Oxy cutting doesn't work to well on stainless.... Stainless Steel doesn't rust. Plasma cutting works but a cutting disc in an angle grinder is generally easier to source...

Get the thin metal cutting disks for a 4" grinder and zing the hole in it. Easy as. A little tidying up (and I mean a little) and your done. Use the handle/chime on the keg to guide you around the top of the keg (draw a circle first) and you'll get a lovely clean hole, and no slag inside your keg. It doesn't come any simpler than that. Work slow and very shallow and you can go round in a circle very well.

What these guys are saying is correct you can not oxy stainless , it will only make an incredable mess.
I have done many kegs for myself and others with a cutting disc , easy for anyone with even a little hands on know how.

thanks guys. I had a feeling the oxy wasn't the way to go.

Another tip....
You can buy various sized cheap glass frypan lids @ Target/Kmart. If I was going to cut mine again I'd buy a lid first then make the hole diameter to siut....
Doesnt aid the brewing process much but keeps the dust out * looks kool in storage....
Maybe I'll wood clad my keg mash tunn soon :p

And get some ear plugs or muffs, as the keg resonates with the grinder and makes one heck of a noise.

Half (or more) fill the keg with water. This will reduce the noise.

Make sure that you use specialised stainless cutting dicss in your grinder, as general wheels contain iron and will contaminate your stanless - leading to some rusting. Even the hot sparks off the disc can affect stainless it hits.
