Our New Brewery

We thought we would introduce ourselves.
We're in Denmark, Western Australia (if there's anyone nearby we would love to hear from you).

Here's our Brewery
- as many recycled components as possible
- and a wood-fired boiler

G'day CroakNfrog, Welcome to AHB!

What an interesting setup you've got there! It certainly ain't gonna win any beauty-pageants, but I like your dedication to recycling!

And a wood-fired burner to boot! Now that's what I call unique in this day-and age! :)

Would you mind giving us a few more specifics on what you use each component there for? I'll take a stab at suggesting the ex-washing machine is your mash tun maybe?

Ingenious :)

Tim.

Looks...interesting :D

Care to explain the various components, their function and where they originally came from ??

I think you'll be surprised how many people there will be down your way that do brew. Must be something about the mild climate perfect for fermenting all year round :beerbang:

Chatty

Ingenious!!!! :super:

If you don't already you should try sparging on the "spray rinse" cycle.

Is that a police radio scanner hanging on the boiler frame next to the plate cooler I see?

very interesting set up.

Oh and welcome to AHB...

Welcome croakNfrog!

Never got to Denmark when I was in Perth but have heard it's beautiful. Also heard that the wood fire imparts a smoky flavour to the beer which judges mark down. I would imagine the smoky flavour to be brilliant though and would love to try such a beer. Anything over a wood fire is always better with the possible exception of sex.

Cheers

Love hando's suggestion!

Welcome, that looks like an intriguing set up you have there. Is Denmark anywhere near WOLF CREEK? :p

Cheers, JJ

Welcome croakNfrog

As you can see, I live in Albany. Would be interested in catching up sometime. Send a PM.

Cheers

Ill give it a go yes the washing machine is the masher I found it at the tip 60litre stainless steel bowl in it with a lid .
The small tank next to it is my H.L.T which I have a copper coil in that maintains my temp for the masher
My big boiler is a 160litre steel tank also found at the tip that also has a copper coil in it so my HLT will pump thru that when its temp drops below 70 c .
Its a little bit of mucking around but we save on gas and its good fun

To be honest we havent noticed any smokey flavour the flue runs up the centre of the tank which heats up the wort quite fast and creats quite a nice rolling boil just got to be careful you dont create too much of a roiling boil

No mate took me a little while to work that one out its a thermometer does my HLT and masher might need a scanner for later on
