As my first post here is a total noob question.

opened my cube to give a smell, was opened for minimal time, should I stress?
cheers

yes only open if your going to pitch. as you have now broken the seal that was preserving it.

I need to buy another fermenter in the morning :(.

I would pitch yeast ASAP to cube and transfer to fermenter in morning. You need to let the yeast assert it's dominance over the territory or you will have baddies hijacking the controls of your brew.

Yeast isn't here or I would. Oh well hopefully tomorrow all is well! Only my second batch. I shouldn't drink I do dumb things :p!

Looks like opening the cube was the least of my worries, pitched today and after coming back an hour later notice 15l of trub with only a bit of clear, let it settle for another couple hours, now sitting at a clear 10l of trub, no idea how because I could barely see any trub in the cube, only a little was visible at the bottom of it, see what happens over night.

As soon as this Cube was opened.... well lets just say it wasn't a yeast infection that was an issue.

:drinks:

If you've got a significant wild yeast issue in your area then pitching a long time later might mean that the yeast might have a hard time out-competing any nasties that might have gotten in.

Having said that, if you pitched relatively quickly then you probably haven't created a significantly bigger risk than aerating with an aquarium pump and an airstone without having pitched (which is what I do for every brew - touch wood, etc).

What you see as trub is almost certainly cold break, which is harmless. On pitching it would have got stirred up and became visible in the fermenter. As the beer ferments it will get "pickled" by the process and sink to the bottom as a firm layer. Don't worry.

Thanks mate. Aydos has been stressing me out telling me I ****** it. Last time I list to him.

Haha, Don't get me wrong. There's always the potential that we can **** our brews. Don't take unnecessary risks. Don't open cubes until you're ready to pitch. No exceptions.

This is my second brew ever. I jumped right into AG so I have lots to learn but I will get there. I just want to fill my new kegerator and enjoy some brews!

Are you saying I am an issue?
It was a play on the two cubes......

you'll be fine. Just get that yeast in there quick so it can get to work before something else does.

Haha. Yeast us doing its magic now, looking good. There is still trub to the 5l like but it gas gone down a **** load since last night. All looks great!
