Hi Brewers,

Well I'm glad to call Australia home [wipes beer from eye] but -- and I don't want this repeated -- the beers here arent too bad at all.

To me research is everything so for the past month I have made sure I have give each beer a fair and decent taste test.

The big suprise is the sweetness of the majority of beers here. Hop flavour is obvious but certainly not over the top.

Bitterness is not as high as we are lead to believe, but it may be masked by the residual sweetness.

All in all the beers -- when fresh are excellent.

SNPA is very nice and LCPA is nothing like it from my taste buds point of view. Both are excellent beers though.

Fat Tire is exceptional. And at 1.49 [US] per bottle it is a very easy drinker.

I'm amazed that you can buy beer at "gas" stations and supermarkets and just about anywhere you can think of.

Looking forward to getting home and looking forward to the ANAWBS. Congrats to all the SA [and WA ring ins:)] for SABCOSA.

Well -- what will it be tonight -- Steam beer -- Fat tire - SNPA -- maybe Porter.

Life is full of decisions:)

That reminds me Aaron, it is past 5.00pm somewhere in the world now so I feel a Fat Tire coming on.

The mill is quite a bit bigger than i figured .... excess luggage?? Oh well.

Sounds like you are making the most of it Chiller.
I hope you have found some Dog Fish Head beers to try. Also the ones from Russian River. They do both hoppy and Belgians so you should be sorted there

Beers,

Where in the states are you? In cali, I found that lost Coast Brewery made some really nice beers, obviously alesmith and stone make some nice ones aswell. Cant remember any others off the top of me head. The best thing I found to do is to go to an alehouse, with heaps of beers on tap, and order a paddle or 2, where ya get 5 or 6 different 4oz glasses of beer, whatever ones ya choose. There are plenty of beers to choose from, latest issue of Zymurgy claims there are 1396 micro's in the states, so ya can probably try a dozen different ones each day for quite a while! If ya wanna try some beers with over the top hops, then head for things like Russian River's Pliny the Elder, or Stones Ruination IPA. Have fun over there mate, bit hard not to from a beer drinkers perspective.
All the best
Trent

Clearly this isn't the reall chiller - maybe his evil twin.

The chiller I know would never admit to liking a beer with cascade hops in it.
