I only heard about this today though it has been around a few months. Holders of a producer/wholesaler license will have to pay an annual $500 licence to pay for the risk of harm from alcohol consumption. This will also apply to all licence holders except some small bars will only pay $200. I think this is a pretty big tax for small regional producers, and also guys wanting to get into beer brewing in a small way. A lot of wineries/cider producers etc do it mainly for the love of the job and don't make much profit, so it is a big hurdle for new entrants. This will affect tourism in some regional areas where winery tours are quite popular. Complain to your local member, especially if you are in a coalition seat or the minister's seat of Dubbo.
