Well guys there was a piss poor attendance record in the footy tipping comp. Where is everyone.
Anyway, what about those Newcastle Knights. LUV EM

Good to see the Broncos are doing their usual, winning games despite playing badly.

Early days, but the season looks the goods I think. All the teams except Parra were at least competitive. And the Knights look like they might have learned how to tackle this year! All round a good weekend. We've got 6 away games in a row, but if we defend like we did last Friday night then we'll be OK.

Go the red and blues....

Shawn.

grumblr, mumble fu$#@%, same shite, different year

C'mon Linz, they weren't that bad. Just ask Brian Smith who he'd rather still be coaching....

Shawn

Speaking of Smith, or his team at least, it seems Jamie Lyons has walked out.

Yep, strange days indeed. He's their best player or thereabouts. Maybe the moneybags Roosters are going to buy him like they do with everyone else...

By the way Linz, what happened to the Saints avatar?? You can't have given up on them after 1 week of the season surely?

Shawn.

I still see the saints avatar.

Terry Hill just announced his retirement. At least he has an excuse with his knee, but he has done pretty well for himself. Souths are paying him half his contract without him playing a proper game.

Now that is weird. I'm getting a kind of cartoon dog avatar for Linz, the old one he used to use before he put the Saints one up. Gremlins in the system

Poor old Souths. They just seem to go from drama to drama. I don't think Hill would've done much for them this year anyway. Still, nice to be able to walk off with half your paycheque without playing a single game!

Our favourite son has been at it again...

Dad slams 'boofhead' O'Neill for putting son's life in danger
By Danny Weidler
January 25, 2004
The Sun-Herald

Julian O'Neill's problems with alcohol have hurt only his reputation and career until this point, but now they have nearly resulted in serious injury to a teenage boy.

A drunk O'Neill tried to set fire to a boy wearing a dolphin costume on board a cruise at Port Macquarie with his English team Widnes on January 15.

Only the intervention of one of the cruise operators, who knocked O'Neill's flaming cigarette lighter away from the suit, prevented possible serious injury to Danny Lazarus.

As reported in The Sydney Morning Herald yesterday, the man who stopped O'Neill in his tracks, Gerry Byron, has written a letter of complaint to Widnes football club. The Sun-Herald has obtained a copy of the letter.

Byron and Dave Lazarus, the father of Danny, who run Wizbang Entertainment, advertised the cruise in the local area for families to join the Widnes team on board their boat.

In the letter of complaint Byron wrote: "Unfortunately, there is always one person who spoils it for everyone and once again it seems the habitual offender Julian O'Neill has left a mark on our town for all the wrong reasons.

"We have purchased a dolphin suit as a mascot for our boat for our cruise.

"The suit is worn by my business partner's 13-year-old son who interacts with the children on board.

"The suit is very difficult to get into and is impossible to get out of without any assistance.

"The suit is made completely from nylon and foam rubber and cost our business $5000 to purchase.

"Mr O'Neill thought it would be amusing to hold his burning cigarette lighter to the dorsal fin of the costume while it was being worn by my business partner's son.

"Fortunately, I saw what was happening and stopped it immediately.

"I hate to think what could have happened if the flames had taken hold of the suit."

Dave Lazarus also blasted O'Neill.

"Julian was behaving like a boofhead again and for most of the time he was just being a pest," Lazarus said.

"He thought he was just being funny, but then he tried to light up the suit that my son was wearing and I'd hate to think what could have happened if my business partner Gerry hadn't stepped in.

"A stupid act like that could have had fatal consequences because that suit is highly flammable.

"I feel very sorry for Julian O'Neill because he clearly has a problem with alcohol but if this is the final nail in his coffin he's only got himself to blame. He's got to start acting like a role model because of the position he is in as a high-profile footballer."

O'Neill stripped to his underpants and jumped into the Hastings River after trying to light the suit. He swam to shore and is believed to have hitchhiked back to Port Macquarie.

Lazarus said jumping off the boat "again is setting a bad example for the kids".

"Here was a bloke who had been drinking leaping into a river," he said. "That is a dangerous act."

Byron said in his letter: "Mr O'Neill finished off his one-man show by stripping down to his underwear, diving into the river and swimming ashore.

"This contravenes the waterways authorities laws of our state and could jeopardise our ability to operate in the future."

O'Neill also threw a beer bottle into the river and smoked inside the boat. "The entire town of Port Macquarie has got a story about Julian O'Neill after his stay there," Lazarus said.

"Wherever you go people are talking about things he did.

"His teammates have apologised for what he has done and they were embarrassed about his behaviour."

Byron concluded his letter to Widnes by slamming O'Neill, who has often claimed to be reformed and "off the drink".

"It appears to me that Mr O'Neill has a major problem using alcohol to socialise," he wrote.

"Obviously that is no secret in Australia. He needs to be reminded that if you have one beer or 20 beers you are still responsible for your own actions.

"If drinking makes you turn into a clown, then maybe it is time to give it up."

Ah Julian, always a class act. Good thing he's not in our comp anymore...

And Linz's avatar is back to the Saints logo again  Either he's just changed it or there is a weird difference between my work computer and my home one  What's going on??? Maybe Linz can explain?

Bring on the weekend and more mighty Knights action :)

Shawn.

Piss poor effort by me in the tipping at the weekend for both the Super12 and the NRL.
Maybe if I just picked the home teams for all games I'd do better.
#$(@#&$(@#&$(#@&$(#@&$*

Doc

Ah well doc, plenty more season left to turn it around.

I hear Robbie Ross has just quit the Storm. There is a lot of it going around at the moment.

What is it with these blokes? Ross was long term injured as was Hill so they are different cases, but all these other fellas just 'dropping out'... Weird. So long as Joey stays with the Knights I'll be happy :D

Shawn.

Hey Murray, I still think these football players should not be made out to be role models and super gods for our community or kids. As Sam Newman once said (who i think is a dick) that these blokes are only dumb footballers with only a couple of active brain cells.
Why don't we have all these dramas with Rugby Union. Ill tell you because they are educated and come from totally different backgrounds i.e. money.
Dont get me wrong i love the game but i think the players should not be admired for anything more than what they are. DUMB FOOTBALLERS

Hey, SJW, I agree with you. However, there is a difference between not being a good role-model and trying to burn a kid alive...;)

I do agree though, I don't expect sportspeople to be any better than anyone else.

Maybe Mr Lyons went to Coffs too and the Doggies made an offer he couldn't refuse????

Can Saints knock off the Kiwis????(No backing from Doc heh?)

Now Gasnier is considering walking away. Last thing the Dragons need.

Just to repeat an earlier post...."different year"

Maybe the Illawarra board can take over and change it back to the Steelers...........Then they would have an excuse

Suppose they did OK without the "Big Guns" last year

Go you good things........................................till next week!!!!
