Hey guys, I have seen in past forums that alot of brewers these days have been using cling wrap instead of a airlock is this safe. I just picked up a single door fridge for fermenting in. The only problem is that it won't fit 2 fermenters in it with airlocks. What is the safest process when you use cling wrap??

Cheers chopdog

I am going to enjoy this thread.... :icon_chickcheers:

I am sure that someone, in this thread, will mention using supositories as a brewing aid...

What is an airlock..... ????

now that ive stopped laughing from manticles post

glad wrap is as easy as putting a piece over the top of your fermenter and holding it down with the rubber seal that is inside your current lid

it is perfectly safe do not worry about an air hole or airlock as the gas will find its way out (very intelligent gas)

no need to sterilise the wrap IMHO as it comes straight off a roll and unless you rub it on your nuts or some weird **** like that first it should be sanitary

(edit manticle i have to know, is that you in your avatar if so WTF where you drinking :p)

definitely no need to sanitise glad-wrap, it is used for a few medical indications with no worry about sterility...

So that's just me that does that then? Oh well, I live and learn...

I sanitise my nuts before I rub the glad wrap on them.
That should be fine, shouldnt it?

gladwrap is great not only because its easier, but you get to watch the fermentation process. I would never go back to an airlock.

this would create static electricity which might mean you could even get away without using the rubber band to hold it in place!
my process is about to get a whole lot easier and arousing than before.....

You can also use the standatd fermentor lid and place a bottle cap over the airlock hole if vertical space in the fridge is an issue.
