Got home tonight and checked on yesterdays brews.
My stout is crawling out of the fermenter.

The other part of the airlock had been blown across the other side of the chest freezer.

That's a very impressive image, Doc - what's your yeast?

cheers
reg

I had problems with my starters.
Was planning on using WLP002 English Ale, but ended up using Safale S-04.
OG was 1.068

Beers,
Doc

looking like you may have to link this with the icecream thread doc. ;)

that bloody safale SO4 its got to be the iron man of yeasts!

Doc
you've created a monster!

What a rippa Doc! How much dead space was there before the yeast came to the party?

Glad I don't have to clean it up :)

Well it kept going and the temp kept rising.
What an explosion.
Dialed down the temp on the freezer controller and the temp has dropped and high krausen has finished.
Now time to clean up the mess before heading off to work.

Here is a short video of it going off

There was a good couple of inches of headroom before fermentation took off too.

eeeeeep.... im doing a grumpys colonial stout ni the coming weeks with the same safale yeast... hope i manage to keep all mine in the fermenter.

I have an airlock blow out a while back , in a 30 lt fermenter , it was safale S04 as well

That yeast really gets it shit together quickly

maybe i should half the brew and do them in two 30l fermenters at 11.5l each LOL.

Had a blow off with my 3can homebrand special on the weekend. Yep S04 was the culprit. At least you know it's fermenting...

Video reminds me of a very bad morning in north Thailand once , knew I should'nt have eaten that stuff !
