Michael Jackson was a very influential beer lover. Worth having a look at both Beer Style and List of Beer Styles in Wikipedia, there are some very good links out in the footer if you want to do more reading.

He was a really nice guy. I had the pleasure to do a beer tasting and food matching evening with him. It was funny, at the end of the night, he switched to drinking wine. What I really liked about his approach to beer appreciation is that he encouraged people to speak about beer from the heart and use their own words and feelings. None of the pretentious use of jargon that you often see in wine circles.
