Hi guys I'll he driving down with my wife from the Hunter on Wednesday before the ANHC and will be looking for a good feed and a few beers to unwind after a 12+ hour trip. Can anyone offer up where in Melbourne I can get the best of both worlds - great food to satisfy my foodie wife & a good selection of local craft beers. Walking distace to the George Powlett, Powlett St East Melbourne would be perfect. This is my nly night to get out though. Thurs night is with my wife's friends, Fri & sat are anhc nights and we leave Sunday morning......so if I HAVE to go to the other side of town as there is a sensational one of a kind place then so be it. What's the best place in Melbourne to go?

josie bones for sure. beer list is thicker than the bible and food good too....

Ok ill look into both them, sounds great thanks guys.

Josie bones is great for beer not cheap but great beer list
also try:
Town hall(johnston street, fizroy ) great italian food ,
Cookie (swanston st CBD)more of a bar then a pub but great beer and great food also has the Roof Top in the same building
Young and jackson (flinder st CBD) one of melb oldest pubs great beer list not so much the food
The Napier (napier st , fitzroy) great old pub great old school boozer
The builder arms (gertrude st, fitzroy) great food.
Mountin goat brewers (richmond)i don't know what days they are open and the food is just pizza but they make great beer
Little creature beer hall (brunswick, fitzroy) good food and little creatures beer

most of these are close to the area you will be in if you want to know more pubs just message me I have drunk in A LOT of pub all over melb and if you want more good places to eat I'm a chef and have eat in A LOT of place around town
happy drinking and eating :)

Don't forget The Royston Hotel, across the road from the MG brewery. Has a range of micro brews and alright food...

If your wife is a keen 'foodie', Josie Bones is the only venue that would really tick off both categories whilst also being walking distance away. Would recommend it highly. It's not cheap, but it's not outrageous for the service and quality you get.

Josie Bones to hit both the beer and foodie requirements as hard as possible.

or if you really dont want to walk far, the Baden Powell on victoria parade - just a few minutes walk from your apartments, decent food, decent craft beer selection.

But - its wednesday night, so i suggest a short cab ride to the Mountain Goat brewery, try their beers, then over the road to the Royston. Decent food, good beer list. Its trivia night on Wed, so the bar is noisy and crowded, but the dining room is nice and civilised. I think Josie is "better" but you can do Josie any night of the week and you can only do Goat on Wed and Fri.

Holy moly I think I might need to move to Melbourne. Table booked at Josie bones and will choose one of the above options for thurs & Fri lunch. Skipping out from the ANHC on Friday lunch to catch up with an old mate I haven't seen for a decade and a half. The wife booked us for Neil Perry rockpool at the casino on thurs night, that promises to be awesome.

Dont forget your wallet at JB - great place, great staff, great food, great beer..... but you pay for the experience.
