I've got some non structual ply left over from a project. I'm thinking I could use it to make a neat top for my brewstand underneath my kettle, it will make a nice flat surface and be a decent insulator. Before I run off an do a test run with it, does anyone know if it will survive under an electric kettle for long? My plan is to use a layer of the yoga mat over it prior to the kettle.

There is little effect on plywood by temperatures under 93c see here - http://www.australply.com.au/ti_thermal.html

Water though, is another thing.

Yes, if anything it would only be cosmetic damage. Afterall, there must be thousands of electic urns chugging away at 100c on wooden benches and counter tops with no ill effects apart from awful coffee :)
