I am looking to put some sort of identification mark on some glasses on the underside so it doesn't detract from the glass itself.

I think those dymo type stickers or marking pen will just wash off. Worried about engraving in case a crack develops.

Any suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated.

Acid etching kits are available from art supply stores.
They work well.

A Dremel equipped with a diamond bit.
And a steady hand.

Second tugger (ergh that sounds awful)

My wife does acid etching with her jewellery. Looks awesome.
edit spelling.

Be "very" careful of the etching creams - they have an ingredient that causes seriously nasty issues.

Glove up - be careful - and avoid any skin contact.

Having said that - they (etching creams) do a great job on most glasses (some glass resists the etch more then others)

A decent engraving shouldn't crack the glasses, I've done plenty at work and never broken one
