Bought a box today, with comp season on the way. Very impressed indeed with these NZ produced bottles.

  • 750 not 740 ml.
  • Look fairly sound
  • Box is brilliant for storage, made from high density cardboard, not cheap corrugated, with a really neat hinged lid design.
  • Obviously made with home brewer bottle storage in mind, not just chucked at you in a cheap box.
  • $12, that's cheaper than I was paying in 2008

Recommend.

Note the cheap arse Copper Tun box in the background.

Edit: the box is the same quality as you'd buy at Officeworks for file storage solutions.

Where did you buy them mate? Agree about the box. When I brew cider for Boss Girl I use the Coopers box that the bottles came in. When I say the box they came in, I mean the original box plus 150g of packaging tape to hold the arse together, then the sides.

Good quality box is a big selling point for me.

I love using the PET bottles, so light and easy to store and no drama with breakage. Good for the girls when the only want a little bit then seal them up. Shame they aren't good for beer, they would be perfect otherwise.

Just the LHBS in Lismore.
Mangrove Jacks are infiltrating a lot of stores, worth checking around.

Although I'm an AG and liquid yeast brewer mainly, I've been using more and more of MJ products and all have been brilliant, even did a kit keg filler Bo Pils that turned out very drinkable.

I wonder if MJ's ascendancy is the reason behind Coopers getting off their arse and rejigging their range recently. I also note that Coopers subsidiary Morgans have also dramatically increased their yeast range as opposed to the mystery yeast supplied by Coopers.

Bribie you know that copper tun is just mangrove jacks / Grainfather rebranded as such. It's all one in the same company.

If they didn't pay marketing "boffins" twice a year to tell them to rebrand and use "hipster" logos and fonts on there updated packaging maybe they could pass these savings on to their customers.

Wow didn't know that. Copper tun seems to have really blitzed the LHBS scene, I have a CT 60L fermenter and have gone through many boxes of their bottles etc, especially when I used to deal a lot with the Taree LHBS and Country Brewer when I lived down South. I see that even my cider yeast nutrient comes from them.

Seems odd that Australia is flooding the World with home brew kits and products and NZ is flooding Australia  Maybe something to do with the $ ?

With those boxes, they're pretty good. But you've still got to take good care of them; obvious stuff such as: the handle areas will rip apart if you lift a box of full bottles from only one handle (like I've done a few times when moving them from cupboard space above my head) and don't get the cardboard wet or you might have the bottom of the box fall out or rotting cardboard, etc etc.

I've thought about repairing boxes I've destroyed and/or making new boxes tougher by using gaffer tape around the handles, corners and under the base for extra support.
