Gday guys
In canada right now, sipping on a Beacon IPA that is really quite a nice drop. On the (unfortunately sleepless) flight to LA, I was reading the qantas magazine, and it had a small clip entitled "first class animal". Basically it went on to say that from July 1 to Sept 30, business and first class passengers only will be able to enjoy Little Creatures Pale Ale on the London to Sydney journey. I am hoping that this is a trial, and that means that one day us plebs that spend all our money on brewing equipment, rather than travel or flight upgrades, may one day be able to drink our own body weight in free LCPA on overseas flights. I doubt they will allow it to economy (if it makes it as a regular drop at all), but it will give me even more incentive to grovel for a class upgrade at the check in desk :p
I got a bit of exposure (no pun intended) to fame when I finally got to Vancouver airpot, though, standing there waiting to collect my bags. I looked over, and there was the one, the only, the hirsute (and arguably the most famous male in porn) the Hedgehog, Ron Jeremy. I said gday to him, had a quick chat and even got his autograph for shits and giggles. I had been awake for 30 odd hours, and reckon it will make a good story, so I didnt feel like too much of a idiot. He was actually quite a friendly bloke, and pretty softly spoken, hard to believe he has been in over 1700 movies, as quoted on JJJ a few weeks back. Pity my finacee was on a different flight, I woulda got a photo with him! Edit - My fiancee is a girl, not a him :D
Anyway, all is good here, great weather, and I will be doing a tour of the Sleeman/Shaftebury/Okanagan Springs brewery in a few days, then hitting the wineries. I really reckon, though, that holidays make work seem even worse that it already looks!
Happy brewing, and if I get any good brewery pics, I will post em for ya's

Great story Trent, keep them coming (no pun intended), hope you have a great trip.

Woo hoo :D LCPA on my way back to Aus - now there's something to look forward to...

have a great trip Trent & look forward some piccys of your travels...

Well, I am back near a computer after a week or so away. As far as funny stories go, my fiancee was dropping off my surfboards at our friends house in LA, but on the way to the car, her daypack dropped off the trolley, and by the time she realised, and retraced her steps, she found the police parked next to her bag and in the process of calling in the experts. So, while I was busy meeting the Hedghog, she was busy getting ready to meet the Bombsquad! They take unaccompanied baggage pretty serious over there
As for beer, I stopped in at the second largest BC Liquor store in the state (they are nearly all state owned here), and I was like a kid in a candy store, fair dinkum, I had to curb my enthusiasm lest I spend all my money at once. I bought a couple of beers from England, but mostly local brews, some not so flash, others excellent. Tree brewery from Kelowna apparently used to have some consistency probs, but seems to have it all sorted out with a very hoppy pale ale, havent tried their IPA yet. My hands down favourite though, is Phillips Brewing, from Victoria on Vancouver Island. His raspberry wheat wasnt quite my cuppa tea, and I really liked his espresso stout, but I probably wouldnt drink more than 2 large bottles of it in a night. His Double IPA, however, and his Double Chocolate porter are phenomenal. The porter seemed to have head retention problems, so I assume it was matured on a bed of chocolate, and after tonights effort on the double IPA, I am starting to believe Doc may have had a point when he said it is possible to have too much hoppy beer. I spent last week up in the mountain lakes, and all weekend wine touring, so I havent even looked into brewery tours here, though I will be looking into it tomorrow, and be calling phillips brewery to try and organise a tour there when I am in victoria. From what I have read, Matt Phillips is being touted as one of the best brewers in BC at the moment, so I am looking forward to it (though how reliable that piece was, I dont know). Probably back to the bottlo tomorrow to try a few more local brews though, and hopefully get a few brewery photos in soon.
Hope all is well back home, and Ross, enjoy the LCPA, ya lucky bugger, what are they doing letting brewers into the higher classes? They've NEVER upgraded me on long haul flights, maybe I just dont have the "look" B) Hope ya enjoy yer trip mate.

Trent, you obviously do not know Ross. Since he is an International Scrap Yard Dealer, the Airline has to be carefull how to look after him. One wrong move and the plane might be declared a srcap...

having sufferred the dreaded DVT i won't travel cattle class ever again...now wheres thar LCPA :chug:

Ross would look a treat sitting up there at the pointy bit of the plane in his circulation socks & sandals!

I am off to Sebu in the Phillipines next week for a family reunion. The Mother-in-law is coming along, she is not a bad old stick, loves a few beers. I might get a look through the San Miguel brewery or I might just go play golf. I can't imagine the beer menu on the plane will look any different to 30 years ago. Fosters in a can. Little Creatures would be a bonus.

I always got bumped up to first class for the longer flights when I was travelling in my previous occupation. It was very easy, but things may be tougher now.
Book your tickets & then ring the airline to make a few changes. Always get the name of the person who is on the end of the phone & always ask to talk to the same person. Simply turn up with a small box of Chocolates as a thankyou! :D
This worked great in London as I used to have to go to the QANTAS office to get the ticket altered. It also helps if you dress a little better than the rest of the plebs!
Now everything is done on a computer or through a call centre.Good thing I quit when I did.
Cheers
Gerard

Just a thought. As bottle conditioned beers often need to settle a little after travel due to sediment etc., how do you think LCPA would cope near the end of a 24 hr turbulent flight? (I know it would still be far superior to fosters)
I may again be mistaken by what is available in first class as I have never been there. Do they sell draughted schooners on the upper decks? :p

Cheers

Borret
