So I put down a batch of cider last night in a 5l demi and to my surprise found it struggling this morning. I've done 10+ of these (just here and there when all FVs are busy) with the same usual method, rehydrate at ~40c as per packet instructions and dump in once cooled down not to shock it too much. I usually give it some juice to chew through and it was lively as usual before pitching.

These things usually takes off like a rocket within 6 hours or less, however this morning there was barely anything going on. I used half a pack, thinking of dumping in the rest unless it starts to wake up. It's currently sitting in the sun, covered by tea towels to warm up and seems to be getting happier, lots of sediment/trub on the bottom though. However previously the same method has worked fine even in 14-18c temps, pitch temp was around 20c.

Not a biggie but just struck me funny as usually these things are a piece of cake. But I suppose a brewer's life never is. Can't wait to crack my first (lager yeast) lager in a 1-2 weeks time!

Cheers
