As i cant have all my fermenters in a fridge to lager i normally brew then rack, leave it a week or so then keg it and place it in the fridge for a week - month untill its needed for drinking. Will this have a similar effect to lagering in the 2ndry?

I hope so as i have room for 1 lagering keg in the fridge and as one emptys one can take its place to lager so it would work well otherwise i'm stuffed i cant tie up the fermenters with 2ndry's

thanks for the advise

P.S how do you clean copper pipe to make a sparging equipment. And how do you clean the element on a Stainless steel 25Lt boiler. Not sure what the ellemnt is made out of.

ta!

Lagering in the secondary is good because you have alot of yeast - therefore it ages quickly.

you can age in the keg by adding 85 - 100 gms of dextrose or equivalent malt.
Method:
Add dextrose/malt when you rack.
Store at normal yeast temp for a week.
Vent regularly.
Lager at 5 celcius for as long as you want.
Advantages:
Beer agaes
natural carbonation so can save on CO2
some of the brewers around here swear by it.
I have done it - the results are quite surprising and good.
Dont do it for all beers.
Disadvantages:
Beer can become cloudy.
first draft is mostly yeast.
can clog up you turret seals.

Clean the copper pipe with caustic soda or bi carb.

Element cleaning.
Use CLR - mix with boiling water - turn element on - boil.
Leave sitting overnight - use a SS Scourer ro scrub the crap off.
Repeat until the Urn is sparkling clean.
I had to do this on my Urn.

Hope this helps.

If you use white vinegar(NOT white wine vinegar) and dilute with water, and boil the urn vigorously. Then switch off and let sit for 30mins. then reboil, let cool and drain and rinse really well. Remainder of gunk will wipe off with paper towel.
