The floating screened pick up connects to the beer out dip tube via flexible tubing, but the dip tube of course needs adaptation from the original long beer out version- I've tested an ordinary gas in dip tube and it seems fine (can't recall if Ross mentioned this aspect at the BABB demo). I am not sure if a suitable dip tube comes with the pick up kit, I'm still to get mine but I have a few keg spares anyway. So a retrofitted keg basically has two gas in dip tubes, while the theory goes that the beer clears from the top down (which follows sedimentation/ particle settling principles) and can be dispensed much sooner than beer with a standard pickup which has its intake at the bottom.
The pickup also has a separate adapter for tapping a cask real ale style, however I doubt if individuals will use that method much as cornies are far more common here.
