recon somwhere in Fremantle might stock one? Katie might have enough room in her luggage to bring it over.....then again she is a girl...baggage space is at a premium! srry KT

I assume G&G didnt have any suggestions? You could always shot Wayne an email and ask if he know's of any stockists

Thanks wazza, just rang them, they have a burner there but i doubt its an italain spiral, he was pretty vague on the type of it. might pop up at lunch and have a look at it but i doubt its the one.

These folks would be a good chance too. Got my ally boiler from them. Cool place too. The home winemaker's version of Bunnings.

fair whack of price difference there? do you use one of these burners? what reg, med or high?

Hi Fents,

I have the cheap chinese one with a medium pressure reg. Works very well, Ive boiled 80L no problems.

Cheers
Andrew.

Yes I have one. I use a medium pressure reg (the red one). Have only ever boiled 30 L but it goes okay.

How long does it take to boil 80 litres? I could be in for an upgrade......

It was a few years ago when I first got the burner so I cant remember precisely. I havent done a 60L batch since then. I was just impressed that it could after reading up on performance of other cheapish burners.

I often do 50L batches which is close to 70L boil. With batch sparging, first runnings are usually boiling in 10-15 minutes with the full volume after sparge taking 15-20 minutes. Time varies based on outside temp, wind etc.

I could probably do better than this if I bothered to make a stand. I just use the stand that comes with the burner which doesnt get the pot far enough away from the burner to allow full bore burning.

Cheers
Andrew.

I have two CellarPlus Italian Spirals, bought from the shop at 106 Peel St Nth Melbourne really close to the Vic Market (next door to La Porchetta Pizza). They specialise in winemaking, a small amount of kit brewing stuff, and the rest has an odd assortment of pasta makers and meat grinders. An interesting place to have a look at.

They were on special for $59 and look like these, but are in black: Italian Spiral

I find that they take a long time to heat up (40-50 mins from cold to hit strike temp on a 40L batch), but are whisper quiet - you wouldn't hear one even if you were in the next room. This suits me as I do a lot of night brewing and where I brew is close to neighbours.

I'm using 50L keggles which aren't insulated so I'm going to insulate and build heat shrouds to speed up the time. I use a medium reg. From tests I've read here Rambo & Nasas will get you where you need to go heaps faster but the noise is an issue for me.

Hopper.

Edit - added correct address.

What regulator are you using with your spiral burners because I cant believe it would take that long to heat up!, .

I swapped my Nasa (turkey burner) for the Italian and with a med pressure reg its absolutely awesome! I never run it flat out, its much faster than the Nasa and "flat out" noisier as well, but whisper quiet when turned down to maintain a boil.
